Overview

Bluetooth is the world's most widely used personal area network standard, so it's always been considered for providing IoT connectivity. However, with the last update being several years old, the standard was showing its age while competitors like ZigBee, Z-Wave, and others have continued to advance. Bluetooth 5 goes a long way to closing the gap by minimizing shortcomings such as achievable distance, maximum data rate, and resources for Bluetooth beacons. And mesh networking, which was missing in Bluetooth before, has just been made available to members of the Bluetooth SIG. So, Bluetooth now includes all of the pieces that make it viable for almost every application. This webinar candidly looks at Bluetooth 5 from a designer's perspective, and discusses its key specifications and how they "play" in IoT. Attendees will learn how Bluetooth 5 compares to the competition, the ways that component and software vendors are addressing the standard for IoT, and discover recommendations on how best to implement it.

Key Takeaways

  • Learn what's new in Bluetooth 5 - and what remains the same
  • Understand how it compares stacks up against other major connectivity standards
  • Discover Bluetooth 5's new mesh networking capability and sustainability for industrial IoT
  • Learn the challenges in implementing Bluetooth 5 in industrial IoT
