Overview

This presentation will review the basics of the most popular wireless protocols, including Wi-Fi™, Bluetooth™, and ZigBee™, and some of their latest enhancements and applications, including the "Internet of Things," Smart Grid, and wireless sensor networks. The new Bluetooth Smart (BLE) protocol will be contrasted with classic Bluetooth, and new ZigBee application profiles will be covered, including Smart Energy 2.0 and ZigBee LightLink. Also covered will be the rapidly emerging applications for near-field communications, including point-of-sale, access control and medical devices. Examples of "hostless" wireless modules and other components for wireless applications will be presented to illustrate why implementing wireless connectivity is easier today than it's ever been.

Joe Tillison, Director of Business Development, Western Americas, Bluegiga Technologies

Before joining Bluegiga in 2012, Joe Tillison spent his early career as a hardware designer on a number of electronics platforms for NASA and military spacecraft and the Titan-IV launch vehicle at Lockheed Martin Space Systems. Most recently he managed the wireless portfolio strategy as Technology Director at Avnet Electronics Marketing. Joe has a BSEE from the University of Oklahoma and an MSE from the University of Colorado, and has published numerous articles and conference presentations on wireless technology.
