Many engineers built their own circuit/design for their end products, thus, they want manufacturers to be able to build based on their specifications. So, not so many company use "Standard" pumps.

Do you know of any disastrous mistakes that occurred due to the incorrect usage of piston pumps and plunger pumps?

Answers:
In this occasion there was damage to a belt on a piston pump that was trying to push water above its maximum head and resulted in burning the belts due to not having a limit pressure switch and wrong pump for the application. Other occasions no filter on the suction side resulted in piston failure due to abrasives being sucked up.

1. Offer wrong information regarding what flow media that the pump had to be used. 2. No room for cooling the pump, the temperature in the house kept raising and caused the pump to over heat. 3. Thermostat failed, the pump burned.

1) Pump running without proper filters and punctured filters. 2) Dry run and cavitation. 3) Wrong material selection for the medium to be pumped.
