Keyence LK-G

KEYENCE LK-G — The Ultimate in Non-Contact Laser Measurement

The LK-G Laser Displacement Sensors from Keyence perform high-speed, non-contact, precision measurements on any surface/material such as transparent, translucent, black rubber, or mirrored targets.

The LK-G has an ultra-fast sampling rate of 50kHz and a linearity of ±0.03% F.S. A newly developed linearized CCD (Li-CCD) with digital signal technology achieves 0.0004 Mil (0.01µm) resolution. A proprietary Ernostar lens system, integrated with the sensor head, achieves highly accurate, stable measurements. Eight sensor head models offer a complete range of performance including high-precision, high-accuracy, and long-distance measurement up to 7.48 in. Download a catalog.

Try a spiral retaining ring in an internal and external groove at the same time. Install the ring in one groove and then compress the ring with the mating component into the second groove.

When the grooves meet, the ring snaps into place creating a low cost, hidden, high strength, tamper proof rotating joint. 5,000 rings are available from stock, 1/4"-16" diameters, in carbon and stainless steel. Additional information is available here.

Brake Rotor Analysis Using Non-Contact Measurement Sensor

"Today's automobile braking systems are becoming more complex each year. Manufacturers are striving to provide improved braking force and performance in smaller, lighter packages. Additionally, consumers are demanding smooth, vibration free braking. This requires the brake system to be manufactured to tighter tolerances and perform under extremely harsh conditions."

This article was provided by MTI Instruments, at the forefront of high-precision, non-contact measurement for more than 30 years.

The Scoop on Sweat...

Question:
You're hiking with the kids in the desert and it's a tough climb on an extremely hot day (temp is at least 100 degrees F). When you take a break for lunch, your son notices that the slightest breeze feels cool. He asks, "How does sweat cool you off? The sweat comes out of you at body temperature, but even though it's over 100 degrees out here and warmer than our bodies, with the breeze we're still cooled off. How can that be?" Well?

Answer:
Evaporative cooling. For any body of water (whether it be a drop of sweat, cup of coffee or a pool), the water molecules that leave by evaporation are the ones which had more energy (were hotter) on average than the ones left behind. These molecules break away from the surface, leaving behind a body of water just a little cooler on average as a result. In the case of sweating, body heat is transferred to the remaining water and even more evaporative cooling can take place. In this way, sweating can cool your body down even when the outside temperature is hotter than your body!

New Question:
You're shooting pool with your son, who is whipping your butt — again! You keep scratching, yet he never does. So you swallow your pride and ask why. He says, "If I tell you, will you take the garbage out for the next month?" You agree, figuring you'll get out of it later. He sighs and says, "It's simple, Dad — right angles." What does he mean?
