Chapter 7: Roles of the Players in the Master Production Scheduling Process

Before discussing the roles of the players in the master scheduling process, it is a good idea to list the process owners or leaders in this space. All role descriptions will be kept within the context of scheduling, management, and enforcement of the rules of engagement and order management. There are obviously other process owners and leaders associated with scheduling and planning, but this book will cover only those with direct connection to the master scheduling process. The processes connected to the rules and how they are enforced are by nature also connected closely to the master scheduler, and these positions will be covered. The center of it all is the master scheduler, however. What better place to start the discussion of roles.


There are varying organizational structures in manufacturing, but because most master schedulers are only involved in one manufacturing plant, roles will be discussed from that perspective. If the master scheduler in your organization has jurisdiction over several plants or multiple facilities, some translations will be required, but in general you will find the defined roles appropriate.
