   Abrasive Blast Machine / Sandblaster       Sandblasters or abrasive blast machine use a stream of abrasives, shot, or other media to clean, abrade, descale, finish or deburr surfaces.  A stream of air or water, a spinning blast wheel or rotor or a combination may propel the abrasives. 
   Nozzle Blast Machine       Abrasive blasting machine or sandblaster where the abrasive is driven by a stream of water or air.  A nozzle is used to direct or guide the abrasive blast stream.  Other liquids or gases may be used for special applications. 
   Wheel Blast Machine       Abrasive blasting machine or sandblaster where the abrasive is propelled by a rotating wheel, the blast wheel. The blast wheel projects a wide stream of abrasive or blasting media against a workpiece. Wheel blasters may drive a dry or wet stream of abrasive particles. 
   Air Abrasive Jet Cutter       Abrasive jet cutting machines use abrasive grains entrained in a stream of air to cut through metal, composite, or other materials in sheet or web forms. 
   Abrasive Water Jet Cutter       Abrasive jet cutting machines use abrasive grains entrained in a stream of water to cut through metal, composite, or other materials in sheet or web forms. 
   Non-abrasive Water-Jetting / Blasting       Non-abrasive jet cutting machines use a stream of water or air to cut through softer materials in sheet or web forms such as plastics, foam, or diapers. 
   Peening / Burnishing       Machines with peening or burnishing capability can impart mechanical deformation or work to the surface of a part. Conventional shot peening machines propel metal shot onto a surface using abrasive blasting equipment or similar products. Flap peeners have media attached to strip on a wheel that rotates at high speed. Parts are presented to the flap peen wheel. Ultrasonic shot peening machines use ultrasonic energy to activate the media on selective areas or with cavities. Laser peening machines create a pressure wave to peen a surface by explosively vaporizing a layer of water or liquid.  Burnishing machines press rollers or balls against a surface to mechanical deform and refine surface finishes. Peening and burnishing processes can dramatically improve fatigue strength and endurance limits of metal alloys. 
   Pressure Washer       Machine with pressure washing or rinsing capability direct a stream of water or a water detergent mixture at high pressure to clean or remove surface debris (scale, rust, paint, dirt, grease, abrasive dust).  Multiple jets with rotating heads are often used to cover a wider area as the surface is traversed.

Plunger-type intensifier pumps are commonly used to generate high-pressure water for water jet cutting, wet or water abrasive blasting, and non-abrasive pressure washing or rinsing. Crankshaft-driven plunger pumps are also used for pressure generation. These plunger pumps may be more efficient than intensifiers in terms of electrical energy costs, but at high pressures (>20,000 psi) the seals must be replaced periodically.  Crankshaft-driven plunger pumps also provide a virtually ripple-free pressure source when compared to intensifiers. An accumulator may be required to smooth out pressure fluctuations if an intensifier pump is used. In air-based blast or jet systems, air compressors are typically used to generate pressure. 
   Abrasive Injector       Abrasive injectors move abrasives from a storage vessel to a nozzle, gun, head or wheel. The injection or metering system controls the amount of abrasive pushed into the air or water stream. In large systems, the delivery system and injection system may be separate components. 
   Hopper / Tank       Hoppers or tanks store dry abrasive grains, blasting media or abrasive-water slurry mixtures. 
   Media Separator / Reclaimer       Media separators and reclaimers remove undersized abrasives or media and blasting coarse waste (i.e., removed scale or stock in the form of swarf). 
   Dust Collection / Filtration System       Dust collection or filtration systems remove fine particle sizes of abrasives, media and blasting waste (i.e., removed scale or stock in the form of dust or fine swarf) that would otherwise become suspended in the air.

   None (Large Surface)       On large, fixed surfaces such as the side of a steel tank, ship's hull, vehicle or building wall, the blast stream or abrasive jet is presented to and scanned or guided across the surface for cutting or cleaning. 
   Hand Loaded       The part is handheld for presentation to the abrasive blast stream. Parts cannot be presented to the stream in a water jet abrasive machine.   
   Belt / Roller Conveyor Loaded       The part is mounted on a belt, chain or roller conveyor for presentation to the abrasive blast stream or jet. 
   Overhead Monorail Conveyor Loaded       The part is mounted onto an overhead monorail or rail conveyor for presentation to the abrasive blast stream or jet. 
   Gantry / XY Table Loaded       The part is mounted onto a gantry or XY table. The cutting jet traverses the sheet or part to cut out the pre-designed pattern. 
   Rotary Table Loaded       The workpiece is clamped to or held in a vise mounted on a rotary table. 
   Tumbler / Tumble Belt Loaded       The part is mounted in a tumbler belt or tumbler for presentation to the abrasive blast stream or jet. Different surfaces are exposed to the blast stream as the part tumbler on the belt. Large parts processed in groups may be damaged through impacts with other parts. 
   Spinner Hanger / Turnstile Loaded       The workpiece is hung or hooked onto a hanger mounted on a spinning rack or rotary turnstile with hooks.  
   Other       Other unlisted, specialized or proprietary workpiece loading types.
