Your choices are... | |||
Cable Extension | For cable extension devices, moving object is attached to a cable, which is typically connected to a potentiometer. As the object moves, the potentiometer's resistance value changes.
Magnetic Induction | Magnetic induction sensors are a non-contact technology type of sensor that relies on an induced current from a magnetic field to measure the linear velocity.
Microwave | Sensor uses microwave technology to determine speed.
Optical / Laser | Sensor uses fiber optics or laser technology to determine speed.
Piezoelectric | For piezoelectric devices, a piezoelectric material is compressed and generates a charge, which is measured by a charge amplifier. Often used in vibration velocity measurement applications.
Radar / Radio Frequency | Sensor emits radar wave, which is reflected by surface and returned to sensor. Speed is determined by measuring frequency difference (Doppler Effect).
Strain Gauge | For strain gage devices, strain gages (strain-sensitive variable resistors) are bonded to parts of the structure, which deform when making the measurement. These strain gages are typically used as elements in a Wheatstone bridge circuit, which is used to make the measurement.
Ultrasonic | Sensor emits an ultrasonic pulse, which is reflected by surface and returned to sensor. Speed is determined by measuring frequency difference (Doppler Effect).
Other | Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary technology.
Search Logic: | All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.

Electrical Output / Interface
Back to Top
![]() |
![]() | ||
The type of electrical signal that will be produced.
Your choices are... | |||
Voltage | Output voltage is a simple (usually linear) function of the velocity measurement.
Current | Analog current output such as 0-20mA, 4-20 mA, etc.; often called a transmitter. A current is imposed on the output circuit proportional to the measurement. Feedback is used to provide the appropriate current regardless of line noise, impedance, etc. Useful when sending signals long distances.
RF / Radio | The output signal is encoded in radio frequency and transmitted wirelessly to a receiver.
Switch / Alarm | An output of a change in state of switches; includes alarm switching or triggering.
Serial | A standard digital output protocol (serial) such as RS232, RS422, RS485, or USB.
Parallel | A standard digital output protocol (parallel) such as IEEE488, etc.
DeviceNet | Utilizing CAN protocol, DeviceNet is a network designed to connect industrial devices such as limit switches, photoelectric cells, valve manifolds, motor starters, drives, and operator displays to PLCs and PCs.
Ethernet | A local-area network (LAN) protocol developed by Xerox Corporation in cooperation with DEC and Intel in 1976. Ethernet uses a bus or star topology and supports data transfer rates of 10 Mbps. The Ethernet specification served as the basis for the IEEE 802.3 standard, which specifies the physical and lower software layers. Ethernet uses the CSMA/CD access method to handle simultaneous demands. It is one of the most widely implemented LAN standards.
SERCOS | (SErial Real-time COmmunications System) is an open controller-to-intelligent digital drive interface specification, designed for high-speed serial communication of standardized closed-loop data in real-time over a noise-immune, fiber optic cable.
SSI | Serial Synchronous Interface (SSI). A general standard for absolute encoders. The physical interface consists of two differential connections aside from power and ground. The controller provides a clock input, and the sensor returns a data signal synchronized to the clock.
TTL Compatible | Transistor-to-transistor logic (TTL) consists of multiple transistors forming logic gates for conditional switch output. TTL Compatible refers to a logical output of 1 for voltages 2.4V to 5.5V, and a logical output of 0 for voltage levels from 0 to 0.6V.
Other | Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary electrical output or interface.
