In 1960, our founder, Orville Bauman, set the foundation for the business by using his New Hermes pantograph engraver part-time to produce quality nametags and signage to local industries and businesses in the U.P. of Michigan and northern Wisconsin. He firmly believed in the ultimate satisfaction of the customer by fulfilling their orders in a personalized, timely, and courteous manner - all at a fair price. His son, Dean, began working part-time in 1981 by adding his years of industrial management expertise to his dad's engraving business (which was growing fast by word-of-mouth advertising). In 1991 Dean took over ownership and operation of the business. Due to Bauman Engraving's rapid growth in the late 1990's, Tom Dudek was a welcome addition with his technical and business background to manage our national accounts and online presence, as well as adding additional support staff to help process customer orders. In 2010 Tom and his wife Amanda purchased the business from Dean and continue that tradition into the third generation of the business, now known as Bauman Engraving & Signs, Inc.

Bauman Engraving is located in the U.P. of Michigan, in the beautiful city of Kingsford. Kingsford has a little bit of interesting history behind it: In 1922 Ford Motor Company had a large automobile factory (about 3/4-mile from our location) to produce the wood parts on some of their vehicles (as well as wooden gliders that were made for the military during WWII). From some of Ford's operations came charcoal briquettes - a "waste" product that later became a consumer product all in itself - thus the beginning of the popular brand of charcoal that is our city's name. The actual name of Kingsford came from Henry Ford's first plant manager of the Kingsford factory, E.G. Kingsford. Ford ceased operation of the plant in 1951. Up until September 2002, all that had remained were two large brick smokestacks (as seen in the photo above) that were Kingsford's main trademark for years, in addition to various factory buildings. The smokestacks were demolished due to deterioration. What remains now are some of the factory buildings Ford used which now make up an industrial park. A little history, but we digress...
