Chemical Safety Board (CSB) released a safety video on the combustible dust explosion at Imperial Sugar refinery which claimed lives and caused extensive property damage. The video includes a 3-D computer animation depicting the first explosion, and the massive secondary dust explosion that destroyed several buildings. CSB recommended that OSHA move forward expeditiously with a new combustible dust standard and urged Imperial Sugar and several trade associations to take other actions to reduce the hazard. The CSB is an independent federal agency charged with investigating industrial chemical accidents. The board, whose members are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate makes safety recommendations to plants, industry organizations, labor groups, and regulatory agencies such as OSHA. can, therefore, maintain a 30-40% cleaner filter than can be accomplished using reverse pulse. That 30-40%, when translated into static pressure, means that during the usable life of a cartridge filter, the Micro Air system will run at 0.8-2.4 inches lower total static pressure than the competition. Lower operating pressures means increased filter life and more effective cleaning translates into better system performance!

Combustible dust enters the HYDROMAX Wet Collector through ducting in the rear of the filter cabinet and is run through an aqueous bed of water and a series of internal baffles, utilizing engineered water streams to drop out and filter the combustible particulate. Dust is contained in the bottom of the collector for safe removal at necessary intervals.
