The RF430 modem can also be used for general-purpose wireless data communications.

The CWS900 is a sensor interface with a 900-MHz radio built in. Any one of a variety of sensors can be connected to the CWS900, which then transmits the sensor signal. It is battery-powered and contains a spread-spectrum radio transceiver, so it has no cables to limit its placement. As part of a Campbell Scientific wireless network, the CWS900 sends data to a CWB100 Wireless Base Station, which then can forward the data to a computer. The 900-MHz frequency is used in the USA and Canada.

The RF450 Spread Spectrum Radio is the latest addition to our line of wireless telemetry products—transmitting over distances up to 60 miles. The RF450 is a 900-megahertz, license-free radio specifically designed to work with Campbell Scientific CRBasic dataloggers (the CR800 series, CR1000, CR3000, and CR5000). The RF450 radio contains a radio module from FreeWave Technologies and a Campbell Scientific interface board.

The RF310 is programmed by Campbell Scientific to the frequency assigned to you by your Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license. This frequency must be specified at time of order so that it can be programmed into your radios. An RF500M or RF310M modem is required for each radio, and an RF500M or RF310B is required at the base station. The base station also requires a programmed radio.

The COM220 modem enables communications between a computer and a Campbell datalogger via a public switched telephone network. A Hayes-compatible modem is required at the base-station computer while a COM220 connects to the datalogger at the field site. The COM220's wide operating temperature range and minimal power requirements make it ideal for use at remote sites. A surge protector to help suppress incoming electrical transients carried down the phone line is strongly recommended.

Two SRM-5A RAD Short Haul Modems support local communications between Campbell Scientific dataloggers and a computer with an RS-232 serial port. These asynchronous modems use a 4-wire unconditioned telephone line or the CABLE4CBL-L cable for transmission; data rates up to 9,600 bps are possible. Their low voltage transmission levels minimize crosstalk between adjacent lines within the same cable. Data are transmitted and received at a balanced impedance, providing excellent immunity to circuit noise.

LoggerNet Datalogger Support Software, installed on an IBM-PC® or compatible computer, provides software support for data retrieval, datalogger program upload/download, and remote monitoring.

The RF232A includes a 110/220 Vac to 12 Vdc transformer, RF95A modem, RS-232 port, and internal mount for a radio. The RF232A is always located at the base station computer and serves as a link to field stations and repeaters. The RF232A is backward compatible with DRL RF systems; it is NOT compatible with Midland/Maxon radios.

Located at base station computer, the RF310B Base Station serves as link to field stations and repeaters. This base station is compatible with Midland radios. It includes a 110/220 Vac to 12 Vdc transformer, RF310M modem, RS-232 port, internal mounts for an RF310-series transceiver, and 7026 cable.

This RF base station is for PakBus networks with UHF/VHF radios. The RF500B resides at the computer site and serves as a link between field stations and repeater stations. It includes an RF500M Radio Modem connected to a PS100 Power Supply. The modem and power supply are shipped mounted to a 10-in. x 12-in. metal plate.

The RF310M Modem provides the communication interface between one of our dataloggers and a Maxon/Midland radio. The modem is typically powered by the 5 V power supply from the datalogger's serial I/O port. When the modem is at a non-datalogger repeater site, it is powered by a PS100/A100 combination. Each RF310M contains dip switches that allow the user to address the modem with a number between 0 and 255.

The RF310M is compatible with the Maxon/Midland transceivers (see RF310 series) and the RF310B Base Station. Contact Campbell Scientific for information about interfacing new Maxon-based components into a system previously offered by Campbell Scientific.

This RF modem will continue to be available, but Campbell Scientific recommends the RF500M modem for RF networks that use PakBus dataloggers. The RF95A is used with our RF300-series radios. It provides an RF communication interface between the datalogger and a RF300-series radio. Each RF95A contains dip switches that allow the user to address the modem with a number between 0 and 255.~

This radio modem is for PakBus networks with UHF/VHF radios. The versatile RF500M can serve as a field modem connected to a PakBus datalogger, as a standalone repeater not connected to a datalogger, or as a base-station modem connected to a computer. It works with our RF310-series radios, our RF300-series radios, or any radio and modem combination that outputs a demodulated byte stream via RS-232. The RF500M uses software (i.e., DevConfig) instead of hardware modifications to upgrade the operating system (OS) and change RF ID or other settings.

Campbell Scientific’s COM320 voice-synthesizer modem provides a CR800, CR850, CR1000, or CR3000 datalogger with speech capability—thus enabling the user to call a site for a spoken summary of real-time or historical data. This modem is not compatible with mixed-array dataloggers. The COM320 can also act as a standard modem.
