Mars Metal Company, Specialty Casting Division is your supplier for extruded lead pipe and bar products. The extrusion process provides a very accurate shape that is very dense. The pressures necessary for extruding pipes or shapes ensures very little porosity in the lead and it provides a very smooth and consistent surface. Various alloys are available from pure at 99.97% through various copper, tin and antimony alloys in varying percentages. The low melting temperature of lead, high density, corrosion-resistance, malleability and relative low cost make it attractive for use in many applications. Extruded Lead Pipe Our extruded lead pipe is available in standard sizes from .375" OD through 10" OD with uniform wall thicknesses. Pipe from .375" OD through 1.5" OD is available coiled while 2" OD through 10" OD is available in up to 10' lengths packed in fiber tubes for protection and straightness. Lead pipes are generally, but not exclusively, used for carrying acids and corrosive chemicals or for sheathing sensitive communication cable runs for waterproofing purposes. Extruded Lead Bar Our inventory of extrusion dies is extensive and includes round, ribbed, elliptical, rectangular, and square and is available in various lengths. Ingot lead can also be known as lead pigs, bullion or bar lead and range in size from 10 LB ice cube tray ingots to 70 LB large ingots. MarMetal's drywall is laminated with sheet lead that is designed to cover necessary surfaces or walls in a room requiring radiation shielding. It is affixed to surfaces or walls ensuring a continuous layer of sheet lead under the drywall to a specified height. It is used in new construction or shielding upgrades/renovations for P.E.T and other types of diagnostic imaging rooms. Lead Drywall Product Details MarMetal starts with a piece of sheet lead which meets or exceeds Federal Specifications QQ-L-201F, Grade C, ASTM B-749-03, and Standard Specification for lead and lead alloy strip, sheet, and plate products. The lead sheet is 99.9% pure or better of un-pierced virgin lead, free of dross, oxide inclusions, scale, laminations, blisters and cracks and is factory laminated to drywall.

MarsMetal's plywood is laminated with sheet lead that is designed to cover necessary surfaces or walls in a room requiring radiation shielding. It is affixed to surfaces or walls ensuring a continuous layer of sheet lead, under the plywood, to a specified height. It is used in new construction or shielding upgrade/renovations for P.E.T and other types of diagnostic imaging rooms and to fill the void between lead-lined drywall and interlocking lead bricks. MarsMetal's Lead-Lined Plywood is available in 5/8" to 3/4" in thickness with pure lead sheets of thickness 1/16" to 1/2? factory laminated to it.

For added strength and durability, we also offer lead shot in bags manufactured of 600 Denier vinyl coated black nylon or ballistic nylon to meet rigid fire rating specs. Our standard lead shot is #8 (.09"/2.29mm diameter). Density is approximately 436 lbs. per cubic foot. Noise - it can destroy hearing, create physical and psychological stress and contribute to accidents by making it impossible to hear warning signals. The technology to curb noise levels of many sources now exists. The many variations of materials to control noise are all derived from three basic noise reduction principles:1. Blocking of Sound Waves - Materials must act as barriers to noise transmission. The essential characteristics of a barrier are high mass and limpness.2. Damping of Sound Waves - Materials must reduce radiated noise. Materials used for this function would be resilient in nature.3. Absorption of Sound Waves - Materials must dissipate noise. The characteristics of this type of material are an open, fibrous or cellular structure and generally light weight. Sheet Lead as a Barrier - The effectiveness of any barrier to noise transmission is established by three factors.1. Mass - The greater the weight per square foot of barrier, the more sound it can block.2. Limpness - A limp material blocks sound over a wider range than a rigid material, which can radiate the sound.3. Integrity - There must not be a path through or around a barrier. Sheet lead is heavy. Its high surface density (59 lb./sq. ft. per inch of thickness) will provide more of a sound barrier than a thicker layer of plaster, glass or concrete. There is a point at which these other materials will gain stiffness that negates the effectiveness of their density. Because of its inherent limpness, or softness, lead cannot be easily set in vibration. It does not resonate or "ring," hence it cannot radiate sound. Being a metal, sheet lead has an advantage over various aggregate materials, since it is more uniform in density throughout. Also, its softness allows it to be easily cut, folded, formed or crimped. This allows sheet lead to have the flexibility required to insure the integrity of the barrier system. Thus, sheet lead meets all the criteria for a good barrier. This, coupled with the fact that it can be readily adhered or fastened to other materials for structural or sound absorption purposes, facilitates the development of effective noise control systems.

Utilizing today's modern construction techniques, developers and engineers are able to realize the full potential of land both above and below ground. Parking garages, subways, shops and storage areas are commonly situated underground without restriction or hinderance from what lies above. Lead waterproofing is often specified when installation or construction occurs beneath landscape plots, reflecting pools, fountains or planter boxes. Lead membranes or pans, when installed correctly, provide an impermeable moisture barrier that will last as long as the buildings that surrounds them. Waterproofing today means "membrane", which includes built up or laminated coverings made up of large unbroken surfaces demanding continuous integrity of the barrier for water-tightness. Most installations of this nature use lead "burning" (welding) to join the sheets as large as needed and that can be handled. In waterproofing situations where increased safety is a factor or greater long-term reliability is desired, lead should be specified at 6 lb. or 8 lb. per square foot weight or equivalent to 3/32? or 1/8? thickness. However for less demanding or critical areas such as shower stalls, a lighter sheet lead weight of 4 lb. or 1/16? is used.
