The KOBOLD NGM Series guided wave radar level transmitter uses time domain reflectometry (TDR) technology, also known as “guided microwave” or “guided wave radar.” This means that low-energy and high-frequency electromagnetic impulses, generated by the sensor’s circuitry, are propagated along the probe, which is immersed in the liquid or solid to be measured. When these impulses hit the surface of the media, part of the impulse energy is reflected back up the probe to the circuitry, which then calculates level from the time difference between the impulses sent and the impulses reflected. The KOBOLD NGM Series guided wave radar level transmitter’s sensor can transmit the analyzed level as a 4-20 mA analog output, or it can convert the values into a freely programmable switching output signal.

KOBOLD NMF membrane switches allow level monitoring of dry bulk goods in storage vessels. These are commonly used to indicate full and empty conditions for powdered and granular bulk materials. Any free-flowing material with a grain size up to 30 mm (~1.2 inches) and having a density within the limits of 19-144 lb/ft3 is suitable for use with the NMF. The NMF is a simple, pressure sensitive device with the material pressure transmitted to an internal mechanical switch via an elastomer or thin metal membrane. Operation is simple and very reliable if the material is not sharp-edged or not placed directly into the bulk fill stream. However, even these types of situations can often be accommodated by the use of simple mechanical shielding to protect the diaphragm.

The KOBOLD Level Switch model NSV excels in low density bulk media and is easy to maintain. It detects level via vibration technology. The vibrations are induced into a stainless steel fork by a piezoelectric crystal. When the media contacts the fork and dampens the vibration, it is detected and then transformed into a potential-free limit contact. In addition to the standard model NSV-8200, the model NSV-8201 offers vertical installation via an extended neck pipe up to 118". The sensitivity can be set for maximum or minimum via a selector switch. The status of the switch is indicated by an LED light.

KOBOLD's NWS level switch works on the vibrating tuning-fork principle. A piezoelectric crystal is matched to the frequency of a tuning fork in air, and used to set the fork vibrating. When the fork becomes immersed in a liquid, its resonant frequency changes. The piezoelectric crystal is then no longer matched to the tuning fork. This causes the vibration to stop. The NWS's internal electronics detects this change and signals an alarm condition. The NWS is compatible with non-coating and some coating media whose viscosities can range up to 5000 cSt. In addition to the electrical switching control function, an LED signals the status of the switch and the presence of power at the NWS's terminals. The switching logic of the NWS is easily toggled between N/O and N/C by an internal switch. The NWS is available with a solid state switch which may be used in a 2-wire or 3- wire mode. The 2-wire configuration can switch loads up to 240 VAC at 0.5 amps. The 3-wire system switches a DC voltage when activated.

The KOBOLD PLS series pendulum level switch is a very simple and reliable solution for monitoring high level of bulk solids and powders in storage bins and silos. The switch consists of two major components, the aluminum housing containing the microswitch with the connection terminals and the pendulum rod with sensing cone.
