Design Attributes
Challenging high load and lightweight gearbox geometries and materials are becoming the standard in the industry and necessitate adopting the newest manufacturing and inspection technologies for the next generation of aircraft or refurbishment of existing aircraft. To insure optimal performance, gearbox design and construction requires a combination of good engineering, specialized manufacturing knowledge and expert craftsmanship.
Good engineering practices dictate the criticality of bearing hole locations and size. Correct alignment of the bearing holes enables us to provide the proper gear mesh of the gear teeth and prevent binding in the gear train. Designing in correct bearing hole sizes for very tight tolerances allows us to insure the bearings have a good fit to hold the bearings' outside races. Done correctly this fit also allows for the inside bearing races to rotate freely. Utilizing optimized gear software allows us to determine the correct contact gear patterns and saves time and money in designing a new gearbox.
Specialized manufacturing knowledge is needed to grind, shape, hob or shave gears within the gearbox. Expert craftsmanship is needed to produce internal gears with exceptional accuracies up to AGMA class 12 and assemble a complex gear box.
