The DCP-485 is a compact RS-232- to-RS-485 converter which features a complete electrical isolation barrier and heavy duty electrical surge protectors. These devices feature a DIN rail mountable enclosure, for application to a junction box, a panel, a relay rack, the side of your computer, or anywhere a DIN rail can be mounted. Isolation is provided by optical couplers and a transformer-isolated dc-to-dc converter. The RS-232 connection is made through male or female EIA 9-pin D sub connectors, or a 3-wire RS-232 connection can be made through convenient pluggable screw terminals. The RS-485 connections are made through convenient pluggable solderless screw terminals. The DCP-485 series is designed for full duplex operation over two-wire pairs. Outputs are tri-state, allowing multidropping of up to 32 units. Data rates are up to 115.2 K bits per second (baud). Four diagnostic LED indicators are provided for installation guidance and system troubleshooting. The RS-232 interface includes Request To Send (RTS) and Data Terminal Ready (DTR), either of which can be used via a DIP switch to enable the RS-485 transmitter. Alternately, the DCP-485 offers automatic line switching: the RS-485 transmitter is enabled automatically by each character sent on the RS-232 Transmit Data (TD) line. Additionally, the RS-485 transmitter and receiver can be independently enabled continuously or under RS-232 control. A convenient null modem switch is provided for the data lines. Also, line termination switches independently connect line termination and line bias resistors to the RS-485 lines. Each RS-232 port implements all modem control signals for maximum compatibility with a wide range of peripherals. The board is MD1 Low Profile and Universal Bus (3.3 V and 5 V) compatible and utilizes a 16C864 UART to provide 128-byte Tx/Rx FIFOs for maximum reliability in data intensive applications. The board ships with a 36" cable that terminates to four DB25M connectors. If you need DB9 connectors, order the OMG-COMM4-LPCI-DB9 which includes a cable that terminates to four DB9M connectors.

The CAT-285 is a unique interface converter that can be configured by the user to convert either RS-422 or RS-485 to RS-232. When operating in RS-485 mode, the CAT-285 has an intelligent mode which provides control of the RS-485 line. When configured to operate as an RS-232 to RS-422 interface converter, the CAT-285 converts full duplex data, Td and Rd, between RS-232 and RS-422. As an RS-232 to RS-485 converter, the unit can be configured for either 2 or 4-wire operation. In either mode, the CAT-285 allows control of the transmitter so that multi-dropped operation can be accommodated. The CAT-285 can be configured to control its data flow in one of two ways. The first is via the use of RTS, pin 4, of the RS-232 port. In this case, the RS-485 transmitter will turn ON when RTS is turned on. When RTS is OFF, the CAT-285 is in the receive mode. In the 4-wire mode, the receiver is always on. The second method of controlling the RS-485 transmitter is to turn it on when Td data is applied to the RS-232 port. The receiver also operates differently depending on whether the mode is 2 or 4-wire. In the 2-wire mode, when no data is received by the RS-232 receiver, the RS-485 receiver is switched ON. When data is detected for transmission, the receiver is switched OFF. In the 4-wire mode, the RS-485 receiver is constantly ON while the transmitter is switched as required. The CAT-285 is equipped with a five position dip switch that is used to select the following: RS-422 mode: 4-wire RS-485 mode: 2-wire RS-485 mode: 4-wire RS-485 mode: controlled by RTS RS-485 mode: controlled by data 220 ohm terminator: in or out The CAT-285 is also equipped with a DTE/DCE switch to allow reversing pins 2 and 3 on the RS-232 interface. Td and Rd LED indicators help verify operation.

Adjustable Charts
The JAVA Applet chart scales are fully adjustable on the fly. For example, the chart can display one minute, one hour, one day, one week, one month or one year. Users can select channel 1, channel 2 or the difference of the two channels. Temperature and humidity can be charted across the full span (-40 to 124C, and 0 to 100% RH) or within any narrow range such as (20 to 30C).
