Double Track Linear Guides feature the most compact design and the highest load capacity of all pre-assembled linear guides. It utilizes the same features of Modern Linear's double track in a complete, easy to install system. Installation of a DT Linear Guide is easier and quicker than two single edge tracks because there are no issues regarding edge parallelism.

The double track linear guide comes with a pre-assembled adjustable carriage, pre-drilled double track and matching spacer. The carriage includes adjustable bushings and is ready to slide onto the rail and adjust to fit. The rigid cross section of the track allows for fewer fasteners. The aluminum spacer can be used for continuous support of the track, or segmented for intermittent support. Intermittent supports are commonly used in high contaminant environments to prevent dust or chips from collecting around the linear guide.

The double track linear guide is made from Modern Linear's off-the-shelf guide rollers and double edge track. The double edge track incorporates two 90° v-edges and is made from AISI 1045 steel. The v-edges of Modern Linear double track are case hardened to 49-52 Rc. The remaining unhardened track can be drilled or machined. Carriage plates and rail extrusions are made from T6063 aluminum, anodized for protection. All hardware is 18-8 stainless steel. The double track carriage is available in four sizes with load capacities ranging from 268 lbs. to 3596 lbs. Rails are available in standard and custom lengths up to 12 feet. Custom hole size and spacing options are also available. Alternate surface treatments including black oxide, thin dense chrome, and PTFE coating may be special ordered.

Benefits of Guide Roller Technology

Modern Linear products incorporate the benefits of guide roller technology. Guide roller benefits are numerous compared to competing technologies. They are smooth, fast, quiet, and extremely durable. From DNA scanners to CNC tables to robotics to drawer slides, guide roller components excel in a wide variety of industries and applications. The versatility of guide roller components offer unlimited integration possibilities. Modern Linear guide rollers, bushings and tracks are completely interchangeable with industry standard products. Our guide roller benefits are as follows:

SMOOTH

Linear guide rollers are based on the design of radial ball bearings. The load carrying balls travel in a circular path and are retained and separated from one another. Current ball bushing and ball rail linear systems have a recirculation path that requires the balls to make a quick change in direction. Vibration occurs when the balls collide entering and leaving the load zone.

QUIET

Linear guide rollers are very quiet due to ball separation. The internal ball bearings are separated by a nylon retainer. This feature reduces noise common in recirculating ball systems. Noise is amplified in recirculating guide systems when each ball collides with the next in the ball path.

RUGGED

Rugged. The radial bearings of Modern Linear guide rollers are offered with shields or rubber seals. The seal is superior to wipers common in recirculating ball guides. Debris caught between the wheels and track is wiped away naturally. Ball bushings and ball rails use the shaft or rail as the inner race of the bearing, making them susceptible to contamination failure. 440c stainless steel guide rollers and track are also available for corrosive environments

FAST

Recirculating ball guides are limited by the sharp turn the balls must make as they enter and leave the load zone. Guide rollers are only limited by the rotary speed of the radial bearing. Maximum guide roller speeds are up to 2x faster than ball bushings or ball rails.

ECONOMICAL

Modern Linear guide rollers are simple to design, install and maintain. In operation, the guide system is compliant and forgiving to mis-alignment and machining inaccuracies. These features result in lower initial, installed and total cost.

INDUSTRIES

PACKAGING

Guide roller technology is an excellent choice for contaminated environments often found in packaging and construction equipment. Debris caught between the guide rollers and track is wiped away naturally. These linear motion systems are also extremely durable in shock load conditions. Modern Linear guide rollers are offered with shields or rubber seals for protection against contaminated or moist environments. The seal is superior to wipers common in recirculating ball guides. Additionally, Modern Linear' s Vector linear guide systems are easy to install, and run smoothly on light weight machine frames. Their compliant rail feature eliminates the need for carriage adjustment throughout the life of the system.

MEDICAL

Modern Linear guide rollers are extremely smooth, fast and quiet. The internal ball bearings are separated by a nylon retainer. This feature reduces noise common in recirculating ball systems. The balls are also permanently lubricated and sealed from the environment. Guide rollers are capable of 2x the speed of ball bushings and ball rail guides. Our linear motion systems are only limited by the rotary speed of the radial bearing, while recirculating guides are limited by the sharp turn the balls must make as they enter and leave the load zone. Guide rollers can run without external lubrication between the track and rollers, creating a system which requires little maintenance or adjustment once installed.

ELECTRONICS

Electronic and semiconductor industries utilize many of the benefits of linear motion systems required in medical applications. Smoothness combined with low noise and high speed capabilities are necessary to meet the demands of the semiconductor industry. The circular ball path creates smooth, fast and quiet movement often required by high value wafer processing equipment. Special lubricants and plating options are available to meet the demands of specific semiconductor applications.

COMMERCIAL

Guide roller technology is an excellent choice for a wide variety of industrial machinery and commercial applications. Components are low cost and easy to design for simple mechanisms such as door and machinery enclosure guides. V-groove rollers are compliant and forgiving to machining inaccuracies and misalignment. Our linear motion systems are durable and long lasting in applications where maintenance is infrequent. Modern Linear guide rollers are a good choice when the best answer is a product that’s simple to design, install and maintain.

About Modern Linear

Modern Linear, Inc. was founded by Steve Fulton in 2004. Steve has worked in the linear motion industry for over twenty years designing and selling all types of linear motion products. His experience includes working for industry leaders that produce ball bushings and profile rail technology, as well as Teflon bushings and guide rollers. This experience led Steve to start a company devoted to guide roller components and guide roller technology.

Modern Linear's goal is to improve the performance of automated equipment. To achieve this we develop products that offer superior longevity, improve machine performance, and lower operating costs. Our customer service goals are to always ship from stock or with the shortest manufacturing lead times in the industry. Our mission is to provide all of our customers with high quality, durable products and outstanding customer service

Wounded Warrior Project

Modern Linear products have been specified on a wide variety of machinery, including military equipment. We are grateful for this business and feel a responsibility to support our troops. Modern Linear donates a portion of our profits to the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org. It goes without saying that the men and women who are wounded or killed fighting for the freedom of others make the most important and ultimate sacrifice. The same goes for the families of those who serve.

Customer supplied fasteners are used to create the carriage assembly. The adjustable bushing has an offset hole for the fastener. The offset from the center line equals the maximum distance of adjustability. The minimum adjustable range is 0.012 inches for the size 1 bushing, and the maximum adjustable range is 0.060 inches for the size 4XXL bushing. Modern Linear guide roller bushings are designed to accept common fasteners. When assembled, the hex head is turned to adjust the fit of the guide roller to the track. The fasteners are tightened down to lock the bushing in place, when ideal fit is achieved. When possible, concentric bushings should be positioned to carry the majority of the load. This offers maximum versatility of carriage design.

The adjustable and stationary bushings are available for each of the five guide roller sizes. Standard bushings are made from 4L12 steel with an electroless nickel plating. 304 stainless steel bushings are also available. Standard height bushings are designed to accept a standard open-end wrench to make adjustments. Low head bushings are available for compact applications.

Additionally, Modern Linear bushings are completely interchangeable with industry standard guide roller bushings.
