The majority of composite wind turbine blades contain adhesive joints. If a composite joint is properly designed, the adhesive can play a very beneficial role as its compliance allows for dimensional mismatch, such as from thermal expansion, and reduces stress concentrations at locations where elastic modulus mismatch is present.
