Door and Window Hardware

Door hardware and window hardware is used to lock, handle, or hinge doors and windows. Door hardware includes interior knobs and levers, keyed sets, deadbolts, and hinges, as well as door closers, pulls, rollers, stays and strikes. Door closers are mechanical devices that close doors automatically. There are two basic styles: manual and automatic. Door pulls enable an operator to pull a door shut. They come in a wide variety of designs. Door rollers are often used with garage doors, sliding glass doors, and sliding screen doors to provide ease of movement. Door stays are support mechanisms that hold a door in an open or closed position. Door strikes are used with wooden or metal doors, and may be designed for mortise or cylindrical locksets. Specialty door and window hardware for interior doors is also available.

Many types of door hardware and window hardware are used with interior and exterior windows. Products include window bolts, clips, closers, guards, handles, hinges, keepers, latches, and operators. Window bolts and other antique window hardware are usually made of brass. Aluminum window bolts are also available. Window clips are designed to help protect exterior windows against high winds, flying debris, and storm damage. They slide onto protective plywood sheets without nails, screws, or adhesives. Window closers are spring or motor-driven devices for closing windows. Window guards help protect children from falling by securing the sides of the window frame. Window handles allow windows to be opened, while window hinges permit movement back and forth. Window operators may feature single-arm, double-arm, straight, and rotary designs. Exterior windows may use door hardware and window hardware such as locks, pulls, transoms, and stays. Window locks are designed to prevent unauthorized entry into a building through an exterior window. Window pulls are I-shaped products that are made of metal or plastic and installed horizontally. They attach with screws and are available in brass, nickel and chrome. Some window pulls have a locking mechanism. Window transoms are horizontal lintels or beams across a window. Window stays are designed to prevent a window from falling. There are four main types of products: folding, sliding, telescoping, and casement. Folding window stays have swiveling joints and may resemble a folding ruler. Sliding window stays have a pivoting foot on one end a fixed rivet on the other. Telescoping window stays are adjustable devices that can hold a window against a moderate wind. Casement window stays are screw-in devices with a pivoting bar and series of drilled holes.
