March 1999 • Vol.7 Issue 3 Add To My Personal Library Multifunction devices have been available for years, but their popularity in small office-home office environments is really just starting to mushroom. As prices continue to fall and the quality of these all-purpose machines continues to rise, their popularity should continue to blossom. Much of the attraction to multifunction devices (MFD) stems directly from the sheer convenience these devices provide by combining several functions into one machine. Typically, multifunction devices include a copier, fax, printer, and scanner. In addition, some MFDs include PC faxing; a handset to make phone calls; and a National Television System Committee (NTSC) video input jack, which you can use to capture digital images to print or store in the computer. As the demands placed on small offices become more complex and intricate, these type of features are becoming more appealing.
