You would request a report from the corporate database and it would be on your desk the next morning. Fast forward to today. Imagine if Amazon.com took overnight to show you the results of a book search you requested or if you had to request money from your ATM 24 hours in advance! In our fast-paced world, customers are not willing to wait on computers to process information. When we want something, we want it now, or we will move on to another company or product. This is why the computers and networks of today have to keep up with the customers. Businesses can no longer expect the demand on their computers to slack off at night; they must have computers that keep up with customers and that run 24 hours a day, seven day a week. After all, while New Yorkers are sitting down to dinner, customers in Silicon Valley are still rushing to afternoon meetings. Even when the California customers are tucked away in bed, it is daytime somewhere in the world, and you can bet that location is connected to the Internet and looking to do business. All this means that in order to succeed in today's business environment, computers must be up and able to keep up with customer demands
