The advent of digital storage oscilloscopes or DSO’s facilitates the frequency response measurements discussed in the last section. With a conventional scope, the generator’s sweep rate must be kept fast enough to avoid flicker, but slow enough to provide at least a few cycles at the low end of the sweep. A DSO can be set up to trigger on a single cycle of a relatively slow GCV waveform. This permits a sweep through the desired frequency range that is slow enough to permit adequate response of the circuit under test for all frequencies in the sweep. Many DSO’s permit downloading of their stored display to computers, printers, etc. permitting a permanent record of the test. Products & Services
Comb generators create harmonic frequencies from which one frequency can be selected with a narrow filter and filtered out.
Signal generators and waveform generators are used to test and align all types of transmitters and receivers, to measure frequency and to generate a signal, waveform or noise source. Signal generators can use AC energy, audio frequency (AF) and radio frequency (RF) to function.
IC waveform synthesizers and function generators provide several different waveforms or functions at the desired frequency.
Oscilloscopes translate an electronic signal into a pattern or waveform on a screen. As it is traced across the screen, the waveform creates a signature of the signal's characteristics.
Digital filters use digital signal processing (DSP) to perform numerical calculations on sampled values of a signal.
