Application Note: Causes and Cures for Bearing Failure
From Electromate

Excessive loads usually cause premature fatigue, as can tight fits, brinelling and improper preloading. Reduce the load, or redesign with a higher-capacity bearing.

Overheating can be caused by heavy electrical loads, inadequate heat paths, and insufficient cooling or lubrication. Use thermal or overload controls, adequate heat paths, and supplemental cooling.

Brinelling can be caused by any static overload or severe impact. An example is pressing a bearing onto a shaft by applying force to the outer ring. Install bearings by applying force only to the ring being press-fitted..

Products & Services
Thrust bearings are designed for pure thrust loads, and can handle little or no radial load. The rolling element in a thrust bearing can be a ball, needle or roller.
Motor parts and accessories include products such as motor seals, commutators, laminations or laminated cores, armatures, carbon brushes, and contacts.
Jewel bearings, jewels and pivots are miniature components used in instruments and controls requiring low friction, long life and non-magnetic properties.
Radial or deep groove bearings can handle radial and axial loads to varying degrees, but are typically used when the primary load is in the radial direction.
Plastic bearings are used in wet and corrosive environments, clean environments, areas that are difficult to lubricate, and applications that require non-magnetic bearings.
