Smoke detectors may have audible alarms, visual alarms, (LEDs) or both. They may also have alarm output to a control unit. Smoke detectors without a built in alarm come with alarm contacts for output to an external annunciator in the detector base or to a control unit. Smoke sensing ICs may come with piezoelectric horn drivers or with alarm output circuitry. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) establishes minimum requirements for fire alarm systems and initiating devices such as smoke detectors. Smoke detectors and fire alarm systems that support NFPA 72 must produce an audible alarm signal that is different from all other audible signals. Products & Services
Smoke detectors are designed to sense the products of combustion. Common types include ionization chambers and photoelectric devices.
