IR, Nuclear and Beta Gauge Instruments

IR, nuclear and beta gauge instruments use the absorption of radiation to measure the thickness or basis weight of webs, sheet materials or coatings. On nonmetallic materials such as paper or plastic films or webs, the amount of radiation is reflected back or transmitted through the material is measured to determine absorption levels. An increase in mass, density or thickness will result in increased absorption. IR, nuclear and beta gauge instruments are often calibrated with sample of known thickness, density or mass. The radiation source used can be IR (infrared electromagnetic), nuclear (beta particles) or other radiation sources (x-ray, gamma rays) and will depend on the material and inspection conditions.

Products & Services
Thickness gages are used to make precise dimensional measurements on a wide variety of coatings and materials including steel, plastic, glass, rubber, ceramics, paint, electroplated layers, enamels, etc Search by Specification | Learn more about Thickness Gages
Non-destructive testing (NDT) supplies and accessories are used to detect, inspect, and measure flaws, bond integrity, and other material conditions without permanently altering or destroying the examined part or product. Search by Specification | Learn more about Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Equipment
Radiation shielding is used to block or attenuate the intensity of alpha particles (helium atoms), beta particles (electrons), X-ray radiation, and gamma radiation (energetic electromagnetic radiation). Learn more about Radiation Shielding
Flaw detectors are nondestructive testing instruments that can detect or measure defects in raw materials or finished products. Search by Specification | Learn more about Flaw Detectors
Non-destructive testing (NDT) services use test methods to examine an object, material or system without impairing its future usefulness. Search by Specification | Learn more about Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Services
