From protocam.com
There are several types of files which ProtoCAM can accept as input data. We can accept files from any CAD package, provided the geometry is exported into an STL (stereolithography) file format. The STL file format is standard for the Rapid Prototyping industry. This format approximates the surface of a parametric solid model with a mesh of triangles. For detailed instructions, please consult our instructions for exporting STL files from various CAD packages. The detail settings for STL Output are stored in the registry. Information on changing the detail level can be found at Autodesk's website, under the title "Set accuracy for exporting STL files from Autodesk Inventor software" and ID TS64378. Products & Services
Computer-aided design (CAD) software, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) software is used in mechanical, electrical or electronic design; simulation, drafting, and engineering; and analysis and manufacturing.
Rapid prototyping equipment produces a three-dimensional (3D) paper, plastic, wax, ceramic or metal prototype or pattern.
Rapid prototyping automates the fabrication of a prototype part from a three-dimensional (3-D) CAD drawing. These physical models convey more complete information about the product earlier in the development cycle.
Graphics software is used to produce video graphics and to edit and convert graphic files of different formats. These types of software include raster graphics, vector graphics, raster to vector conversion (R2V), and others.
PCB design and layout services providers generate schematics and CAD files for printed circuit boards.
