Applications of Fibers
Fibers are used in various applications such as industrial products, textiles, aerospace parts, automobile parts, sports items, household products, medical equipments, electronic products, electrical equipments, and building construction materials.
Textiles
Fibers are mainly used for textiles. They are used for clothing and containers such as bags and baskets. Fibers are also used in carpeting, art work, upholstered furnishings, towels, covering for tables, beds, and other flat surfaces. They are used in industrial and scientific processes such as filtering. Fibers are also used to make flags, tents, nets, cleaning devices, and transportation devices, such as balloons, kites, sails, tufted carpets, dresses, hooked rugs, twines, ropes, doormats, insulation, towels, paper, cordage, and parachutes.
Industrial Applications
Industrial applications include ropes, twines, nonwoven products, medical surgery products, tire cords, sewing thread, cigarette filters, and insulation materials.
Aerospace Applications
Continuous high performance fibers coated with various metals are used in a variety of applications in the aerospace industry. Radar chaff is a spool of continuous glass tow that has been aluminum coated. The aerospace industry uses carbon fiber composites because of their high performance characteristics. Fibers are also used for space suits.
Automotive Applications
Automotive applications of fibers include motorcycle exhaust products such as mufflers made of carbon fiber. Fibers are used in manufacturing boats, car parts, cushions of automotives, and other automotive parts.
Sports Applications
Sports applications of fibers include ski apparel and skates, rackets, clubs, and water sports materials. Reinforced fibers of nylon, aramid, glass, and other high technology...
