Specific information about die identification, modification, and usage is critical to the overall metal stamping quality process. Hard-wired solutions are prone to breakage when dies are installed. Little or no information can be stored on the die itself. In conventional tracking systems, data often must be stored in the PLC, which consumes memory and may affect the overall operation of the manufacturing cell. Balluff RFID systems, such as the BIS L, provide a total solution to these problems and provide the means to make a quantum leap in the die stamping quality process. Balluff's BIS L RFID System combines long range sensing performance and advanced, inexpensive data carriers to fit the information tracking needs of high production rate die stamping operations. In this representational example, the data carrier and the BIS L sensor have been installed to be in alignment when the die has been positioned correctly in the press. No wire extends from the die to the press.
