From MTS Sensors
Many types of industrial processing equipment utilize sensors to provide the information needed to monitor and control the process. This enables the design parameters to be maintained in order to produce the end product at the desired level of quality and throughput. Typical sensors may measure temperature, pressure, flow, force, or position, for example. The type of measurement and the sensor technology will dictate the set of parameters which are important in specifying and sizing the appropriate sensor. Linear-position sensors measure absolute distance along a motion axis. They are available in several technologies, each having its own advantages and disadvantages. This paper presents information on the application of magnetostrictive linear-position sensors, which are gaining popularity due to their accuracy and reliability. A comparison of magnetostrictive sensors to linear position sensors of other technologies is also included. Products & Services
Magnetostrictive position sensors are non-contact linear position sensors that use the momentary interaction of two magnetic fields to produce a strain pulse that moves along a waveguide. One field is from a magnet that moves along the outside of the waveguide. The other field is from the waveguide itself.
Position probes measure the position of a target surface, usually with a high degree of accuracy. This search form covers many different linear position products.
Linear position sensors, all types, is a general search form for all linear position / displacement detection product areas.
Linear position sensors and switches, ultrasonic, are used for position and displacement sensing, using ultrasonic technology.
Linear encoders sense and digitize linear position change for positional measurement and feedback to control systems.
