Paper Machine Boil-Out for Pulp and Paper
|
From ProSonix Corporation
White water is the water that falls through the wire at the wet end of the paper machine. This water contains fine fiber particles which give it a milky white appearance and texture. The white water generally collects in a pit below the machine and is then filtered and used to dilute additional paper stock. White water is heated in a process known as boil-out, in which the water is raised to high temperatures (around 180-190°F) to kill any bacteria that may be present in the water. Often, a caustic solution is added to the water to help kill any bacteria present. The water is held at temperature for a period of time to ensure all bacteria are killed.
White water systems typically are heated by heating tank contents with steam spargers in the white water chest. Issues associated with sparging:
• Spargers may damage the chest walls because of the sometimes violent nature of the condensation process.
• In addition they are typically inefficient heating elements. Steam often escapes the chest and is vented to atmosphere.
• Most chests are not agitated, causing hot and cold zones to be present in the chest, leading to inconsistent stock temperatures at the paper machine headbox.
Products & Services
Biological indicators are used to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sterilization.
Evaporators are systems consisting of a heat exchanger or bath, valves, manifolds and temperature controls for conversion of a product (e.g., liquefied gas) from a liquid to a gaseous state.
Disinfectors treat water to inactivate, destroy, and/or remove pathogenic bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and other parasites. Common methods include chlorination and alternative disinfectants.
Autoclaves are used for applications requiring constant pressure and temperature for long periods of time. Common applications include the sterilization of instruments and polymerization of rubbers and plastics.
Steam injection heaters inject steam into a system to maintain or raise temperature levels.
