Indexing

Indexing is a type of application where a motor moves a load for a pre-defined distance, decelerates to rest, pauses for some defined interval, and repeats this motion cycle. Common applications for indexing are conveyors, rotary tables, and feed-to-length rolls. Common industries for indexing are packaging, food handling, inspection lines, and assembly lines. These all can take discrete parts and index them progressively from one point to the next where an incremental processing step occurs. The distance moved (also referred to as a step) may be set as a fixed or variable parameter as well as the dwell time between steps. In some systems, these may be linked to external events and interlocks as well. Indexing is often associated with motion control applications, and many apply stepper and servo positioning systems as solutions. Prior to electrical controls with the responses needed for rapid starting and stopping, mechanical solutions were employed

Products & Services
Rotary indexing tables are used to index components in defined, angular increments so that they can be machined, worked, or assembled in multiple operations. Tables can have fixed or adjustable indexing angles. Search by Specification | Learn more about Rotary Indexing Tables
Safety sensor switches are placed in enclosures to prevent accidental contact with live electrical connections. Learn more about Safety Sensor Switches
Tool turrets are indexing tool holders for lathes, transfer machines, and other machine tools. They allow equipment to carry multiple cutting tools at one time and mount individual tools in the correct sequence. Learn more about Tool Turrets
Automated assembly services provide machinery and systems designed to automate the production assembly process. Search by Specification | Learn more about Automated Assembly Equipment
Shaping machines and slotting machines have a mounted cutting tool with a movable table so that metal can be moved back and forth for shaping, slotting, or cutting. Learn more about Shaping and Slotting Machines
