Magnetostriction is a property of ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, and cobalt. When placed in a magnetic field, these materials change size and/or shape (Figure 2). This physical response of a ferromagnetic material is due to the pres-ence of magnetic moments, and can be understood by considering the material as a collection of tiny permanent magnets, or domains. Each domain consists of many atoms. When a material is not magnetized, the domains are randomly arranged. When the material is magnetized, the domains are oriented with their axes approximately parallel to one another. Interaction of an external magnetic field with the domains causes the magnetostrictive effect. Products & Services
Ferrite ceramics and ferromagnetic materials have dielectric and magnetic properties that are suitable for RF and microwave applications. They provide high electrical resistivity and low magnetic losses.
Industrial magnets are manufactured for industrial use. They include individual magnets, bulk magnet materials, magnetic assemblies, magnetic sweepers, magnetic lifts, magnetic sheet handlers, magnetic retrievers, and permanent / electromagnet combinations.
Magnetic field instruments include meters, gauges, recorders and other instrumentation for the measurement of magnetic fields and/or magnetic flux.
Magnetostrictive position sensors are non-contact linear position sensors that use the momentary interaction of two magnetic fields to produce a strain pulse that moves along a waveguide. One field is from a magnet that moves along the outside of the waveguide. The other field is from the waveguide itself.
Magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) stores bits of data by using magnetic charges. MRAM is designed for high density, high speed, non-volatile devices and has the potential to replace DRAM and Flash (EEPROM) memory.
