Polymer - OH Number with Model 412

From Guided Wave, Inc.

The use of polymeric polyols is commonplace in the manufacturing of polyurethanes and other specialty polymers. The hyroxyl number (OH number) is a measure of the concentration of the hydroxyl groups on the polyol. This is an important parameter to monitor and control during polyol production. The laboratory method that is commonplace for hydroxyl number determination is both time consuming and involves the use of hazardous materials. This note will discuss the use of Guided Wave hardware and software tools for the measurement of hydroxyl number in polyols using fiber optic-based, Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. NIR can be applied in real time directly in process monitoring or as a laboratory procedure. In either case NIR is a time and money saving alternative to traditional methods. NIR also offers the benefit of increased safety over traditional methods.

Products & Services
Turbidity instruments measure the average volume of light scattering over a defined angular range. Both particle size and concentration of suspended solids as well as dissolved solids can affect the reading. Search by Specification | Learn more about Turbidity Instruments
Water quality photometers and colorimeters are ion-specific, computer-interfaced probes that are designed to determine the concentration of a solution from its color intensity. Search by Specification | Learn more about Water Quality Photometers and Colorimeters
Fiber optic probes collect light or spectra from extreme environments inside reaction vessels at high temperatures or pressures. Product types include UV-Vis spectroscopy probes, Raman spectroscopy probes, and refractometry probes. Search by Specification | Learn more about Fiber Optic Probes
Gas instruments detect, monitor or analyze gases present in an environment. Search by Specification | Learn more about Gas Instruments
Photometers produce electrical signals, which correspond to radiant flux energy, for a series of discrete wavelength intervals. They are used to measure wavelengths of light spectra and optical or atomic emissions. Search by Specification | Learn more about Photometers
