From Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, Inc.
The CNC Lab from the Technical School Rosenheim in South Germany is equipped for complex tasks in the Reverse Engineering and Industrial Design area. The Tech School owns the Minolta VI-700 3D Digitizer, "Surfacer" Software for optimizing and "resurfacing" point clouds and a large 5 axes CNC milling machine. On a new KTM motorbike design there was a collision between the existing muffler unit (length 60cm, diameter 12cm) and the new kick-down stand. In order for the stand to fit snugly when fully retracted, it was decided to place a dent in the muffler and to digitize this in order to obtain standardized data for the mass production. To obtain the best possible result the reflective metal surface was treated with a matt Dulling Spray. Only one scan (0.6 seconds) was required to capture the target area. The Minolta Vivid Utility Software was used to view and prepare the data for export. Products & Services
