From portescap.com
In the last several years, surgical helmet systems have become as common as power tools in total joint surgery. Orthopedic surgeons have come to rely on surgical helmet systems to protect themselves from the high volume of splash during these cases. Surgical helmet systems are superior to masks and face shields because they cover the entire head and use a head-mounted fan to circulate air. These devices not only protect the surgical team from splashes and keep them cool during surgery, but they also decrease contamination of the surgical wound, which is always an important consideration during total joint reconstruction.
A Portescap motor runs a fan at two different speed levels. It is fitted in a moveable fan housing and its position can be adjusted (balancing) to prevent neck fatigue. The device runs on battery power. The application uses 17mm DC Coreless motors fitted with ball bearings, a custom shaft and lead-wires. This application really demanded a shorter and lighter motor for better integration into helmet housing. The motor also had to have low noise and vibration so the surgeon’s comfort level is maximized. Portescap continues to be the market leader in providing motion solutions to the medical Industry.
