Moisture in Ceramic Powder

From Process Sensors Corp.

Control of clay powder moisture is paramount to the production of quality floor and wall tiles of consistent dimension. Too high moisture results in a badly formed, flexible tile in the dry press, and too low moisture in easy breakage. Too high moisture results in a badly formed, flexible tile in the dry press, and too low moisture in easy breakage. On line moisture measurement: • results in tighter control of bulk density of powder and consequently more consistent product in terms of final dimension • enables achievement of optimum moisture level minimizing wastage • saves energy through not over drying Clay, talc and other mineral constituents are quarried, refined, mixed and dried to a set moisture level prior to forming in a Dust or Ram Press at very high pressure. The formed tiles vary in moisture by as much as 6%, and must be oven or air dried to within 1%, prior to kiln firing. This prevents explosion of tiles within the kiln.

Products & Services
Floor coatings are tough protective layers used in applications where heavy surface wear or corrosion is expected. Typical applications include warehouses, chemical plants, and manufacturing floors. Learn more about Floor Coatings
Industrial sealants are liquid or viscous compounds used between surfaces to contain fluids, prevent leaks, and prevent infiltration of unwanted material. They may also include compounds for filling gaps or seams. Search by Specification | Learn more about Industrial Sealants
Roofing materials come in many forms. For example, sheet metal, asphalt and tiles are common materials depending on the climate there are best suited for. Learn more about Roofing
Polyurethane adhesives and sealants provide excellent flexibility, impact resistance, and durability. They are available in one-part or two-part systems. Search by Specification | Learn more about Polyurethane Adhesives and Sealants
