Properly identifying samples can be a grueling and labor intensive task for some laboratories or research facilities. Available space to label a sample is often limited and leads to a lack of complete information. Also, many labs still only provide their personnel with pens for handwriting the information. Chemicals, autoclave, freezers, and testing leads to many of these handwritten labels becoming destroyed at worst, and smeared at best. Time - Most lab professional's waste hours labeling samples by hand, while lab specific printer systems provide clear labels up to 8 times faster than handwriting them. Using a TIDD style system, the Division of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia reduced the time it took to label lab tubes.
