Situated in rolling farmland just about where Birmingham runs out some 20 miles from its centre is Upper Spernall Farm. Local lad Paul Halsey who had had a career with Bass on the sales side and latterly as an award winning restaurateur was passing by on his bike mulling over the prospect of setting up a rural brewery.
