Power: Accurate Conductivity Temperature Compensation - A Critical Difference

A large power plant and its condensate polishing system suppliers experienced far-reaching problems as a result of large errors in cation conductivity measurements provided by another instrument vendor. Measurements were made on new condensate polishers and the errors were so significant that the polishing system performance could not be effectively monitored. Only after resolving the temperature compensation errors could the real value be determined and the performance of the polishers evaluated. A recent expansion of the Vindhyachal Power Plant near Vindhyanagar, Mahdya Pradesh in central India included a new 500 MW unit with condensate polishers. Ken Frederick, the president of Ion Exchange Associates was retained to commission the polishing systems at startup. Cation conductivity instrumentation had been supplied to monitor the individual polisher vessel outlets to assist in the operation and management of the polisher system. At startup, the cation conductivity measurement became critical to acceptance of the polisher performance.
