Digital cameras are available with a variety of interference options to suit the particular needs of any given application. Some formats, such as the two FireWire varieties, supply video output and power via a single interface, greatly simplifying system setup and deployment.

Before selecting a digital interface, a number of factors need to be considered. Below are the most common considerations. The data transfer rate will directly affect the number of frames per second a camera is able to output, as a function of the cameras resolution and pixel depth. For more information, contact our applications engineers at 800-363-1992.

CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and CMOS (Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) are different sensor technologies for converting light into electronic signals. In a CCD, each pixel's charge is converted to voltage, buffered, and transferred through a single node as an analog signal. In a CMOS sensor, the charge-to-voltage conversion is done at the pixel level, yielding a less uniform output.
