The modification UNE-EN ISO 16140-4:2021/A2:2026 is now available, which establishes the general principles and technical protocols for the validation by a single laboratory of methods applicable to the microbiology of the food chain. The protocols in this document validate the method only for the laboratory performing the study.

The standard is applicable, in particular, to bacteria and fungi, and deals with the internal validation of:

- Methods used for the analysis (detection or quantification) of microorganisms present in: products intended for human consumption, products intended for animal feed, environmental samples collected from the production and handling areas of food products for human or animal consumption, samples from the primary production stage.

- Methods for the confirmation and typing of microorganisms.
