Captive screws
Captive panel screws are a screw with the thread relieved under head for a portion of the length, so that once threaded through a panel with a washer on the other side, the screw will not fall out. Captive screws are most often used to secure panels, and will remain in the panel when loosened.
ASM captive screws can be made in many head styles (round head, pan head, socket head, fillister head, etc.) and custom length configurations. Thread length, captivated portion of shank and head dimensions are completely customizable. ASM also offers other features, such as lead point, to allow easy navigation into the threaded hole, and an array of anti-vibration compounds and Nylon or epoxy pellets to inhibit the screws from loosening once installed. ASM can also provide captive screws with chased threads, so that after thread relief, parts will accept gages. Standard thread sizes range from 2-56 to 1/2-13 and lengths from 1/8″ to 3″ or more depending on thread and head style.
ASM’s refined manufacturing processes can hold tighter tolerances than the industry standard and allow for the fastest turnaround of parts as needed.
