Kellanova has been on our shelves, hearts, and stomachs for years. Their plant in Cary required a compact and efficient conveying solution capable of handling 8,000 lb/hr of Cheez-Its while feeding two discharge locations through a reversing product flow. Working alongside consulting engineer EAD, the project demanded a highly engineered system that could meet both throughput and flexibility requirements within a tightly constrained footprint. With a required conveyor size of 18” wide by 6” deep and 10’-5” long, discharging at an elevation of 10’-11”, the application presented both spatial and operational challenges.
The primary obstacle was the limited installation space, which made it difficult to incorporate a traditional reversing horizontal motion conveyor. In addition to the tight footprint, the customer required an accelerated delivery timeline, with the system needed onsite just 18 weeks after purchase order. These constraints required a solution that not only maximized performance within a minimal space but also adhered to strict production scheduling demands without compromising reliability or product integrity.
Triple/S Dynamics delivered a custom-engineered Slipstick® Conveyor tailored specifically to the application. The system featured a low-profile 6VS vertical shaft drive mounted beneath the conveyor pan, allowing for a significantly reduced overall height while maintaining the benefits of horizontal motion conveying. The pan and drive assembly was supported on a tubular structure utilizing cast aluminum linkages, enabling the system to fit seamlessly within the available space. To further enhance product quality, a clamp-in-place product dam was included to prevent cross-contamination between discharge points. The result was a compact, high-performance conveying solution that met the customer’s throughput, spatial, and timeline requirements with precision.
