Historic legislation passed in August by the U.S. Congress will have a dramatic impact on the production of semiconductors in the United States.

Congress passed the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, which authorizes spending $52.7 billion for the research, development and domestic manufacturing of semiconductors. The legislation is designed to help U.S. manufacturers gain market share, which stands at only 12 percent. The increased production will also help ease the supply chain shortage, and eventually, is expected to help curb inflation.
