IHS GlobalSpec Automotive & Transportation Technology
Online Event Now Available On Demand
East Greenbush, NY (October 3, 2013) – The September 25 Automotive & Transportation Technology online event hosted by IHS GlobalSpec drew more than 800 participants, with 80 percent of attendees reporting they are decision makers within their organizations. The free online event is now available on demand to give engineers and industrial professionals easy access to educational presentations and industry-leading supplier resources from the live-day event.
IHS GlobalSpec’s Automotive & Transportation Technology online event provided opportunities to learn about the latest products, materials, and manufacturing solutions driving today's automobile and transportation industries. Attendees also participated in educational sessions chaired by industry experts; networked with colleagues and peers from around the world; and chatted directly with key suppliers. By attending this event, participants had the chance to better understand the latest technologies impacting hybrid and electric vehicle development, discover new manufacturing techniques, learn about new software solutions for product simulation and help their businesses keep pace with today's fast-changing marketplace.
Industrial professionals took advantage of these learning and networking opportunities from the convenience of their desktops, without having to budget for travel expenses or lose time away from the office.
“Our Automotive & Transportation Technology online event was a great opportunity for industrial professionals to learn about new technologies, view and download valuable content from exhibitors and engage with leading suppliers,” said Chris Chariton, senior director, digital media solutions for IHS GlobalSpec. “We look forward to another successful event in 2014 and once again highlight the latest trends, technologies and innovations in the automotive and transportation industries.”
Speakers and topics included:
- Electrical Contact Theories and the Transportation Market
Electrical contacts are perhaps the most commonly utilized, but least understood, component in electrical systems today. This presentation offered an overview of contact theory as it applies to the transportation industry and covered contact plating and base metal options, as well as sealing and environmental considerations.
Presented by Dave Larson; sales engineer; TTI, Inc.
- An HMI Development Strategy for Automotive Infotainment
With each year’s lineup of new model cars, the technology platforms supporting automotive infotainment become increasingly complex. The need for simple and efficient human-machine interfaces (HMI), especially while driving, is critical. This presentation helped define the methodologies, technologies, and processes needed for best-in-class HMI.
Presented by Mark Boyadjis, senior analyst & manager, Infotainment & HMI, IHS Automotive
- Electric Vehicle Challenge: Plug-in Hybrids or Better Batteries?
Multiple challenges confront electric vehicle manufacturers selling to the North American automotive market. Learn why plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) may be better suited for market penetration than battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Presented by Devin Lindsay, senior analyst II, North America Powertrain, IHS Automotive
- Combining Gas and Diesel Engine Benefits
Current combustion systems are hampered by either low efficiency (spark ignited gasoline) or high emissions levels (diesel). To achieve high efficiency and low emissions in transportation, an alternate combustion approach shows promise. Using a low cetane fuel (gasoline) in a compression ignition platform (diesel) offers just such a solution if controlled properly.
Presented by Stephen Ciatti, principal mechanical engineer, Argonne National Laboratory
- Smart Automotive Headlights for Driving in Bad Weather
Driving through rain and snow after dark is treacherous and stressful because precipitation scatters light from headlights creating flickering distractions. The smart headlight is a high-speed imaging and illumination system that adaptively avoids illuminating precipitation allowing observers to directly see through rain and snow for safer travel.
Presented by Srinivasa Narasimhan, associate professor, Carnegie Mellon University
Companies exhibiting at this event included: TTI, Inc.; SEYI America Inc.; Crown Plastics Co., Inc.; IHS Inc.; and WEH Technologies Inc.
