IHS GlobalSpec Wind Energy Technology Online Event Now Available On Demand

East Greenbush, NY (October 17, 2013) – The October 9 Wind Energy Technology online event hosted by IHS GlobalSpec drew more than 1,350 participants, with 73 percent of attendees reporting they are decision makers within their organizations. The free online event is now available on demand to give engineers and industrial professionals easy access to educational presentations and industry-leading supplier resources from the live-day event.

IHS GlobalSpec’s Wind Energy Technology online event provided opportunities to explore the latest developments in utility-scale and smaller wind turbine and generator technologies; learn of developments in condition monitoring and control system design, data acquisition and field measurements; and examine new approaches for energy storage, distribution, wind farm siting and construction. Attendees also participated in educational sessions to become familiar with the latest trends impacting the wind energy industry, networked with colleagues and peers from around the world and chatted directly with key suppliers. By attending this event, participants had the chance to better understand the factors driving change in wind energy technology and discover solutions that will help their businesses keep pace with today's fast-changing wind energy marketplace.

Industrial professionals took advantage of these learning and networking opportunities from the convenience of their desktops, without having to budget for travel expenses or lose time away from the office.

“Industrial professionals who attended our Wind Energy Technology online event heard from experts on the latest developments in today's wind energy industry and interacted with their peers and leading suppliers,” said Chris Chariton, senior director, digital media solutions for IHS GlobalSpec. “IHS GlobalSpec online events are also powerful forums for manufacturers and suppliers to showcase their products and innovative technologies to a captive and engaged audience.”

Speakers and topics included:

  • The New Realities of a Challenged Global Wind Supply Chain
This presentation provided an up-to-date assessment of the challenges the wind supply chain is facing globally, and gave an inside look into how manufacturers seek to diversify, consolidate, and/or reduce manufacturing capacity.
Presented by Matt Kaplan, principal researcher, IHS and Eduard Sala de Vedruna, senior research manager, IHS
  • A Checklist of Uptower Tests and Inspections to Help Assure Generator Reliability
This presentation featured an overview of the most common generator failure modes and a review of maintenance procedures and testing that can help extend service life and improve reliability.
Presented by Kevin Alewine, strategic planning manager, Shermco Industries
  • Off-Shore Wind Farm Collection System and Integration
This presentation reviewed the technical challenges and considerations for designing an off-shore wind farm sub-sea collection system. Not unlike those for on-shore wind farms, the collection system is specifically designed to collect generated electrical power from each wind turbine and deliver this power to the bulk electrical system.
Presented by Christopher D. Barker, P.E., senior power system engineer, DNV KEMA Energy & Sustainability
  • Wind Lidars on Wind Turbines for Enhanced Control and Extended Lifetime
Forward-looking wind turbine lidars integrated within operational wind turbines that provide upwind inflow measurements and feed-forward control can reduce daily operation loads, extending lifetimes by more than six years or up to 30%.
Presented by Torben Mikkelsen, professor in remote sensing for wind energy, Technical University of Denmark
