GlobalSpec Claims Spotlight as Leader in B2B Vertical Search and Lead Generation

Sales Growth of 65%; Registered Users Up 86% to 1.7MM

TROY, NY – (BUSINESS WIRE) – 2/2/05 – GlobalSpec, Inc., the leading specialized search engine and online community for engineers and technical buyers, today announced record operating results for 2004.

GlobalSpec produced record growth levels in all of the major areas of its business in 2004: sales volume grew 65% while its registered base of worldwide engineering and technical users grew 86% to more than 1,700,000.

In 2004, GlobalSpec introduced The Engineering Search Engine – the first vertical search engine for a major B2B category which has garnered wide acclaim from analysts, industry experts and a broad range of engineering organizations as ‘the model’ for vertical search. GlobalSpec also unveiled The Engineering Web – 200 million tech-centric Web pages filtered from the World Wide Web for their engineering-relevance. GlobalSpec unlocked the hidden Web for the engineering community – proprietary technical content not found on other search engines. This additional information includes application notes, standards, patents and material properties – content that is categorized and organized for greater efficiency on the part of the user.

SpecSearch®, GlobalSpec’s unique parametrically searchable industrial products database, and already the world’s largest aggregation of digitized OEM and distributor catalogs, grew to contain more than 78,000,000 parts from more than 1,200,000 product families in 12,500 electrical, mechanical, optical and manufacturing OEM and distributor catalogs.

“We are extremely pleased with the strong – and early – adoption of The Engineering Web and the ongoing embracement of GlobalSpec as ‘the place’ the engineering community turns to for online information solutions,” says Jeffrey M. Killeen, Chairman and CEO of GlobalSpec. Killeen continued, “We expect our worldwide registered user community to exceed 2,500,000 by the end of 2005.”

In 2004, GlobalSpec also formed or expanded partnerships and strategic alliances with major industry leaders including SolidWorks, IHS, MicroPatent, MatWeb, Dice, and many of the leading trade publishers including PennWell, Putman Media, CMP Media, World Pumps and Desktop Engineering.

GlobalSpec has been widely recognized as an innovator and as a best-demonstrated-practice among companies who have B2B lead generation business models. GlobalSpec became the only company to be honored twice with InfoCommerce Group’s prestigious “Model of Excellence Award” for vertical search innovation. During 2004, GlobalSpec was also honored as an eContent 100 ‘company of the year’ and was recognized for leadership and innovation in the vertical search engine category.
