GlobalSpec.com expands 10XSite now lists 6,000 contactable companies; 1,100 technical product areasThe expansion puts GlobalSpec.com solidly in first place as the best single source of engineering product information on the Internet. The site has always offered searchable manufacturer product information but now also offers directory listings of companies by product category. Uniquely interesting to Globalspec.com's directory listings is that it's not an opt-in list; manufacturers cannot just sign up. All companies are reviewed, categorized, and validated by GlobalSpec.com engineers. In announcing the site expansion, Barbara Chilson, CEO of GlobalSpec.com, said, "This enhanced functionality is in direct response to user feedback conducted earlier this year. Engineers said they wanted to see as many companies as possible, even if they were not all searchable by product specification." She added, "The engineers also said they wanted to know that we've already done an exhaustive search for manufacturers, so they don't have to. By adding more than 5,400 companies and 800 product categories, we've made it easy for engineers to stop here first and know they have covered all the ground." "While many of the areas we just added are not currently searchable by exact product specification," Chilson said, "we expect many will move into the Spec-searchable category as we expand." Aside from some streamlined navigation that accompanied the expansion, the biggest change existing users will notice is an additional button when a search by specification has been completed using GlobalSpec.com's proprietary search engine, SpecSearch. One button will say "SpecSearch Only." These are companies that make products which meet the user's desired specifications. Another button, labeled "All Suppliers," will list all companies that also make products in that category. The products from these companies may or may not meet the desired specification. |
