Overview

The use of non-contact displacement technologies in the field of precision measurement is rapidly growing. This is due to many factors: on the one hand the need to measure much more accurately with micrometer or even nanometer resolution, and on the other hand the need to measure against fragile surfaces that cannot be touched.

The rapid growth in the sensor market has pushed the development of new technologies to meet the demanding requirements and to improve measurement accuracy. It is therefore more important than ever to have a greater level of understanding of the strengths and limitations of each non-contact measurement principle when selecting the correct sensor technology for your measurement task.

But non-contact displacement sensors come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and measurement principles. The key is selecting the most appropriate sensing technology for your measurement task.

This webinar explains the different technologies, restrictions and differences of the following technologies: eddy current sensors, capacitive sensors, confocal chromatic sensors and laser triangulation sensors including blue laser technology. All these sensors are used for measurements with high precision, stability and high measuring rates.

Attendees will learn the methods for measuring displacement, position, distance, vibration and even thickness with just one sensor. Various animations and graphics show detailed application examples and give important tips for choosing the right technology. Additionally resources to understand the technologies in detail are provided by Micro-Epsilon.

Key Takeaways

  • Learn the metrology fundamentals and basics of non-contact measurement
