Overview

Changes in altitude and intense operating conditions are extremely demanding on seals in aerospace applications. To ensure proper performance, it is critical that the force balance equation stays consistent. There are significant differences between a magnetic seal and a spring-energized mechanical seal’s ability to reach that goal.

In this session, we will explore the challenges experienced by customers when dealing with magnetic seals, as well as the challenges of replacing them with spring-energized seals. We discuss the stroke capabilities and challenges with using a magnet versus a spring for the restoring force. Our expert speakers will dive into the differences in behavior and materials between the two types of seals, highlighting the significance of proper handling and exposing the risk debris may cause when it comes to magnetic seals. By the end of the webinar, you will clearly understand the pros and cons of each type of seal and be equipped to make an informed decision on which one is best for your application.

Speakers

Jason Riggs, Director of Sales for the Americas, Aerospace Market Manager, Technetics Group

Riggs has had a hand in various roles such as sales, marketing, product management, engineering and mergers and acquisitions to push Technetics' organic and inorganic growth strategies forward. He holds the responsibility of leading the global aerospace strategy for Technetics Group. Riggs has vast experience working in the aerospace industry. He obtained a BS degree from Arizona State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Aaron Glafenhein, Senior Design Engineer, Technetics Group

A specialist in mechanical seals, Glafenhein’s passion for engineering started at a young age, spending his childhood taking things apart, building new things, and experimenting with materials. His interest in space and engineering led him to pursue a career in aerospace engineering, choosing Embry-Riddle due to their renowned reputation in this field.

After graduation, he delved into learning structural analysis, bellows, and fluid system technologies, working on major programs such as the SLS, Ares I, and Orion. Through these experiences, Glafenhein gained invaluable knowledge in documentation, analysis, and testing.

In recent years, he has focused on dynamic face seal technologies and hydrodynamic seals, playing a crucial role in the successful development, manufacturing, and testing of Technetics' first hydrodynamic seals.
