Overview

The microelectronic and life science industries require process water with varying degrees of purity. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as well as polypropylene (PP) are typically used for the distribution of this water. The specified water quality, flow volume project size, and cost must all be considered when selecting a suitable grade.

A variety of fusion methods are employed for joining pipes and fittings. These methods include, socket welding, butt fusion, IR fusion, beadless welding and electrofusion. There are pros and cons to each method, which must be weighed and aligned with the pipe material grade. Only by assessing all these variables can a specifying engineer select a cost effective, reliable system.

Key Takeaways

  • Understand why the fluoropolymer, PVDF, is superior piping material compared to alternative materials due to its mechanical properties, such as purity and chemical resistance.
  • Discover Infrared (IR) fusion as a non-contact welding method that preserves weld cleanliness.
  • Learn why "force control" fusion reduces the chance of a cold weld when compared to "distance control" welding.
