EV charging infrastructure is being pushed to its limits due to faster charging requirements and larger EV charger kW capacity. This webinar will address best practices to dynamically manage EV charging parks without overloading the utility feeders while incorporating additional distributed energy resources (DERs) like solar PV and battery energy storage. An EV charger agnostic solution will be presented which allows for multiple communications like OCPP and Modbus.
Overview
Globally, we are experiencing unprecedented EV supply equipment (EVSE) infrastructure and distributed energy resource (DER) additions to the electric distribution grid and have gained valuable insights for dynamic EV load management functionality to scale exponentially. Multiple stakeholders are demanding higher use of renewable generation, including solar PV and battery energy storage, to charge EVs, minimize charging times while not overloading utility feeders and related electrical equipment. In addition, with entire fleet vehicle electrification occurring more frequently, having near 100% up-time is crucial for critical infrastructure. Now, with the advent of 1MW+ EV chargers and extreme needs to power datacenters, the need for supplemental on-site power generation for EVSE is more pronounced than ever.
This presentation will highlight flexible generation approaches and lessons learned after deploying 6000+ EV load management solutions in Europe, predominantly Type 2 AC chargers and Type 3 DC Fast Chargers (DCFC) with solar PV and battery energy storage while coupled with facility loads and utility connections. These best practice insights have been gleaned over a three- year span from multiple energy suppliers, OEMs, EPCs and facility owners. While some of the lessons learned may seem obvious, others are more subtle in nature due to the multiple stakeholders involved with EVSE and DER additions to the electric distribution grid.
Multiple audiences will find this information useful, from general to more advanced technical audiences. The content of this presentation is very useful to help scale at greater speeds to meet the aggressive global EV growth and carbon reduction goals. Real-world use cases will be brought into the presentation to make it relevant for multiple audiences.
